I started working with Josh in the summer of 2017 when I was 20 pounds heavier than my ideal weight. He helped me lose that weight and 5 inches off my waist with his dedication to my fitness and nutrition and his unique style of training. We lost touch when I moved away, but two years later in the summer of 2020, he reached out to offer virtual training and I decided to give it a try. I am so grateful I did, as not only is he a great trainer, but he is also a friend who is empathetic and has a great sense of humor. He listens well and adapts to my goals, needs, fitness level, and equipment. With his help and encouragement, I am back to my ideal body in terms of weight and muscle, feeling more energized than ever. I even look forward to our workout sessions and I highly recommend working with Josh, regardless of where you are on your fitness journey.

I started working with Josh about four years ago because in my late 70s, I wanted to save my left knee from replacement surgery. Because of arthritis pain, the right one had to be replaced, but I was very unhappy with the result. It doesn’t bend enough to walk downstairs normally or ride a bike. The left leg was a candidate for surgery, but I was hoping to avoid when I looked for someone who could teach me how. Josh has made it possible for me to strengthen my legs and learn to adjust to my changed body. He is always attentive to my form as I exercise and encourages me to challenge myself while making sure I don’t do anything that results in injury. The work-outs are always interesting; he balances the work over the course of the weeks so I am developing new strength.
Josh’s openness and intelligence makes it possible to discuss many topics. We discuss books we both have read and delve into personal experiences at times. His enthusiasm for healthy recipes and food- related issues gives me tools for keeping my weight under control. These days I am grateful because I have dodged knee replacement surgery, but, more than that, I have benefitted in many other ways from working with Josh. What a pleasure to see his handsome face ready for our morning work-out!

I now see that personal trainers vary in their approaches and the kinds of clients they best fit with. That being said, Josh Kidd has had a transformational effect on my physical well-being since we've been working together. This is because he is knowledgeable about anatomy and anatomical problems, intellectually curious about what methods are most effective, aggressive about finding those methods, and extremely good at communicating and listening. He employs many different methods and I’m convinced the diversity in itself has an almost magical impact, to get me moving and motivate me to step up my workouts. My hip and glute problems when walking and other typical daily activities are much improved, clearly from Josh's hard work and creativity.

I have been so grateful to have Josh as my virtual trainer. We have been training together for some time, and I have found the virtual sessions to be totally great workouts. I am an older woman with two replaced hips and other aches and pains, and Josh does wonders coming up with exercises that give me a hard workout without stressing anything too much. He is patient at explaining the position/action for a particular exercise and he's a good listener. If something isn’t comfortable he figures out a different way to do the same thing. He also suggests stretches and strengthening that I incorporate into my daily routine and I have become stronger as a result. I sometimes “meet” him twice a week (the virtual environment is so easy!), no driving to a gym. It’s so convenient. A good guy and a wonderful trainer.

Josh is an impressive body of knowledge on all things fitness and wellness. What I most enjoyed is that he is demanding but never demeaning. He expects a lot from you, and that encourages you to expect a lot from yourself. He meets you where you are (in ability) and then provides the tools and resources to get you to your desired goal.

For decades I have pushed myself to do cardio workouts, but I had never been good about stretching. That changed once I started working with Josh. Initially, I was skeptical about doing this virtually, but Facetiming has been great - so convenient with no travel time involved. The balance and strengthening work has made a big difference for me.
“Getting together” was so easy and efficient that after a year or so my husband Steven got on board and has also been doing workouts courtesy of his cell phone. Josh is great about creating workouts that make use of furniture we have in the room. We made a minimal investment in a few weights and a resistance band and were all set. We have confidence in Josh’s expertise and know that he designs workouts that meet our needs and challenge us at the right pace. He’s supportive, flexible about scheduling, and always upbeat. I am 1st Lieutenant Zachary Schwartz, a Marine stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico. In 2013, I was severely injured during an experimental operation and my dream of becoming an Infantry Officer seemed unattainable. The healing process was frustrating and my physical condition was on the decline. In July 2013, I sought help from the personal trainers at the Barber Fitness Center in Quantico, where I met Josh. He impressed me with his depth of knowledge, humility, and desire to help. He listened to me and my goal to get back to IOC, and he helped me through the hardest workouts I've ever done. He also helped me eat better and became a true friend. He was respectful, professional and an absolute pleasure to train with. Thanks to him, I am weeks away from starting IOC, and I owe him my career.

Working with Josh is one of the best health decisions I've ever made. The convenience of working out at home and flexible scheduling has helped me gain hours back that I can spend with my family, and I am in the best shape I've been in since high school. Josh designs fun total-body workouts that combine strength and endurance training, cardio, and even yoga that get a lot of work done in a short amount of time and leave me feeling energized. He is extremely knowledgeable about the physiology behind each of his exercises, and you can tell he spent a lot of time carefully designing them.

I first met Josh when he managed the gym at the federal government agency where I work as an attorney. I always loved taking his classes because he made them both challenging and fun. He once did an entire spin class with show tunes because he knew I would enjoy that. Now that we are all working from home, I have been doing a weekly private session with Josh via FaceTime. Every session is different, and he really knows how to tailor the exercises to my needs and capabilities. These weekly sessions have become an important part of my fitness regimen, and it’s still fun!
